Physician Assisted Suicide Is A Controversial Topic

Physician-assisted suicide is something is always a controversial topic to discuss with anyone. There are some people that agree with PAS for good reasons, yet there are also people that disagree with it for good reasons too. During my recent research, I have come to the conclusion that I am for physician-assisted suicide, and I think everyone has the right to die on their own terms. Many people though, including doctors, think that this is morally wrong and it should not be done, but I believe that if people are suffering from a major illness they should not have to live the rest of their life in pain, and die a slow death. Some people with illnesses that want to have a PAS can t even go to the restroom on their own I think that when†¦show more content†¦(p. 3) I think that some of these points are good ones to an extent. The vulnerable groups taking advantage of this is somewhat true. I believe that more people will want to request this but that is why I think that i t should be very closely watched on who is allowed to get a PAS. In Oregon, it is legal to practice PAS but there are a lot of steps that you have to follow in order to be granted this. Many people think that you just ask for it if you are sick and you get it but that is not true at all. You have to be terminally ill with less than six months to live, you must ask for it twice, and the requests must be made fifteen days apart. Also, you have to sign a legal document and have two witnesses sign it as well. Then after that, the physician decides if you have any psychological illnesses and if you do you have to get an okay from a psychologist. If you check out with the psychological part then the physician will decide to write the prescription or not. Having all of these steps makes it so people who don t need a PAS can t get one so nobody can really abuse it. The author also talks about patients giving up too easily and I don t think that would be a huge factor with this because patients who qualify for a PAS are already on the verge of dying, although there are some cases where a patient can recover it is not very common and people do not want to live suffering for six months to find out if they areShow MoreRelatedThe Controversial Topic Of Physician Assisted Suicide1294 Words   |  6 Pagesmonths in intolerable pain? Qualitative Generalising in Accounting Research †MyAssignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about the Qualitative Generalising in Accounting Research. Answer: Introduction This report is based on AMP limited. This report describes the accounting policies followed by the company and the accounting strategies. The report also contains two years annual audited data of AMP limited. The annual report of AMP includes the consolidated financial position, consolidated income statement , consolidated statement of changes in equity and consolidated cash flow statement. This report clearly describes the procedure of preparation of financial statements. This is a three step process and consists of the examples related to the preparation of cash flow statement, trading and profit loss account, and balance sheet (Parker and Northcott, 2016). The two theories of financial accounting i.e. positive and normative are also discussed in this report. Accounting Policies Disclosure of AMP Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) has issued certain guidelines for the preperation of financial statements. At the time of recording the values in the financial statements, these values are rounded to the nearest million dollars ($m). Accounting policies are the policies which are applied by the company at the time of making financial sttaements. These policies includes the value at which the assets and liabilities are recorded by the company. The assets and liabilities related to investment contracts and life insurance contracts are measured on a fair value basis and all the other assets and liabilities are valued on the basis of historical cost. There are some amendments in the AMP accounting policies in the year 2015 (Francis, et al., 2016). The amendments were AASB 2014-9 which was related to the method of equity in separate financial statements and AASB 2015-5 which was related to the investment entities. The person who is responsible for accounting estimates is the management itself. The material misstatement risk of accounting estimates depends upon the subjectivity and complexity associated with the process, the number and significance of assumptions that are made, the availability and reliability of relevant data and the probability of uncertainty associated with the assumptions (Kvaal, 2017). The accounting policy of AMP related to inventories includes that inventories should be included in the financial statements at the cost of inventory or its net realisable value whichever is lower. In case of intangible assets, only those costs are being carried forward which creates future benefits for the company. The critical factors related to accounting estimates are that the methods of conducting business, circumstances of the industry in which the company is operating, other external factors and new accounting pronouncements. Flexibility of accounting policies The accounting flexibility differs from firm to firm. AMP is following the accounting policies as per the Australian accounting standards board. So, members are not having enough power to assess the accounting policies and estimates (Howieson, 2017). The accounting flexibility of AMP is under the management. So, managers are only required to follow their guidelines. If the power of flexibility is less with the managers then the accounting data will be less informative. If managers are having high flexibility then the accounting information will become more informative. Positive theory of financial accounting: Accounting gives the investors and managers a standardized system to record the financial transaction of a company in a consistent, transparent and informative way. Today's accounting systems provides accurate methods for representing a company's performance by carefully applying the accounting theories. Flexibility in accounting policies helps the managers to take decisions imm ediately. The company is required to allow managers to change the accounting policy as per the need of the organization. The two major theories of accounting are positive accounting and normative accounting. Positive accounting theory is also known as PAT. Positive accounting theories are based on observing particular phenomena. The aim of this theory is that by observing a number of things the person will be able to predict the future. Positive accounting theory was developed with a view to identify the best accounting theory for the company from the various theories used by other companies (Loyeung, et al., 2016). Some of the examples of positive accounting theories are stakeholder theory and legitimacy theory. The main aim of Watts and Zimmermans positive accounting theory is based on the aim of identifying the relationship between the individuals which are responsible for the output of the firm. The relationship should be between the managers and the debtors of the firm or it mi ght be between the managers and the owners. According to positive accounting theory, the organization should be aligned in such a way that it can integrate the interest of owners and managers of the firm (Ward and Lowe, 2017). In PAT, the persons who are having the authority for the preperation of financial statements are the managers (Lukka and Modell, 2017). The cost occurred in establishing bond between the managers for the preparation of financial statements is known as bonding cost. In positive accounting theory, the cost incurred in monitoring or auditing of financial statements is known as monitoring cost. Another assumption of PAT is that the actions of agents are controlled by contractual arrangements otherwise it leads to residual loss. On the other hand, normative theory of financial accounting is completely different from PAT. Normative theory of accounting: Normative theory does not evaluate the present condition of company. Rather than discussing what is happening in t he company, normative theory guides the developers of accounting policies on the basis of theoretical principle. The major disadvantage of normative theory is that it is based on theoretical principles and on the other hand, the major advantage of PAT is that it is more practical and is related to current events (Martins and Martins, 2017). Normative theory is more suitable for the company because this theory first analysis the nature, structure and the issues that the company is facing then suggest the most appropriate solution to the company. This theory is totally based on practical approach so by adopting this theory the company will definitely get the solution for its issues because the suggestion provided by noemative theory is practically possible. Positive accounting theory is totally a theoretical approach. So, it only suggests the theories which are already used by some companies. The nature and structure of every company is different. So it is possible that one theory is best suitable for a company and will result in failure for another company because of differentiation in operations and the issues of the company. Positive accounting theory is based on the universally accepted principles. Normative theory is just the opposite of it. Accounting Strategy Evaluation The accounting strategy of a firm should be analyzed by its performance in financial statements. The company is required to prepare a strategy for all the activities related to finance that may happen in the near future. Accounting strategy helps to take immediate measures at the time of financial crises. The complexity in the preparation of financial statement depends upon the nature of the firm. Accounting strategy involves recording of all the financial transactions in proper accounting format so that these records can be further used for the preperation of financial statements. AMP is related to providing financial advice so it involves recording each and every transaction on regular basis. Financial statements include balance sheet, trial balance and profit and loss account and cash flow statement. Income statement includes the revenues and expenses of the firm and helps in calculating net income of the firm (Bergh, et al., 2017). Trial balance and profit and loss account are pr epared to identify the sum total of expenses and revenues of the company to determine whether there is a profit to the company or loss. The credit side of profit and loss account includes the revenue from dividend and interest and the debit of profit and loss account includes all the expenses made by the company like advertisement, insurance, salaries, carriage outward, trade expenses and any other expense. Balance sheet is prepared to measure the actual performance of the company. Balance sheet is the sum total of all the other financial statements. Balance sheet includes the fixed assets, fixed liabilities, current assets, current liabilities and equity shareholders and preference shareholders. The total of both liabilities and assets is equal in balance sheet. The reason behind this balance is that the company uses all its liabilities in the purchase of assets. Cash flow statement is divided in three parts i.e. operating, financing and investing activities. Cash flow statement sh ows the sources and uses of cash. There are two methods of preparing cash flow statement, one is direct method. In direct method cash flow information is measured by directly subtracting the expenses from cash receipts. In case of indirect method, one can arrive to cash flow information by adding or subtracting non-cash items from net income (Newcastle University, 2017). There are three steps for the preparation of financial statement (Chiapello, 2017) i.e. understanding the meaning of debit and credit balances, analyse the debit and credit balances and treatment of debit and credit balances. Understanding the meaning of debit and credit balances: The first step related to the preparation of financial statements is proper understanding of debit and credit balances. It is divided into two parts. First is debit balance in trial balance. The debit balance in trial balance consists of expenses and losses or deferred revenue expenditure and assets (Vardon, et al., 2016). Second is credit balance of trial balance. The credit balance consists of revenue and gains or liabilities, capital, provision and reserves. The second step is analyzing which debit balance is an asset and which debit balance is expenditure or loss. In the same way, which credit balance is a liability and which credit balance is an income or gain. While analysing the debit balance, if the balance is being recovered by the firm then it should be treated as an asset and if the balance should not be recovered then it should be a loss to the firm (Cornell and Warne, 2016). On the other hand, if the firm is liable to pay any amount to the creditor then it should be treated as liability to the firm and if the firm is not liable to pay any amount to creditor then it should be treated as gain. The third step of financial accounting process is the treatment of debit and credit balance. Treatment of debit balances: The balances of losses and expenses on the basis of direct or indirect are transferred to the debit side of either Profit Loss Account or Trading Account as the case may be. The deferred revenue expenses and assets are directly transferred to the asset side of balance sheet. Treatment of credit balances: The balances of revenues and gains on the basis of direct or indirect, are transferred to the credit side of either Profit Loss Account or Trading Account as the case may be (Bailey, 2016). The balances of liabilities, provisions, capital and reserves are transferred to the liabilities side of the balance sheet. Disclosure of the Quality of Financial Statements AMP is maintaining transparency, accuracy and consistency in its accounting records. It increases the quality of financial statements. Every company is required to disclose the material information to its human resources. The goal is achieved with the contribution of employees and if the company hides the material information from the employees then it will become a little confusing for the employees that in which direction they have to work and if the employees get to know about the hidden information then it will lower down their morale because they will think that the company is not trusting them. In case of financial statements, the balance at the end of each year is being carried forward to the next year. If there is any material misstatement in one year then it is going to affect the quality of the financial statement of next years till the mistake is identified by the company. The quality of disclosure helps the company to avoid the interference of government in the operations of the company. the quality fo financial statements also maintains the reputation of the company. GAAP refers to generally accepted accounting principles. GAAP consists of the crucial principles of accounting which increases the quality of financial records. GAAP helps in the maintenance of consistency in accounting. GAAP helps to avoid the managers ability to misstate any information in the financial statements. GAAP is a network of experts of accounting. GAAP includes few best Australian minds. These experts helps in setting out the principles as per the nature and structure of the company. The financial records of the company must be disclosed in this way (Almeida and Fernando, 2017). Example of Trail balance: Particulars Debit Credit Opening stock ---- Plant $ Machinery ---- Carriage inward ---- Carriage outward ---- Building ---- Purchases ---- Wages ---- Sundry debtors ---- Salaries ---- Furniture ---- Trade expenses ---- Drawings ---- Advertisement ---- Insurance ---- Discount on sales ---- Bad debts ---- Bills receivable ---- Bank balances ---- Capital ---- Sundry creditors ---- Sales ---- Bank loan ---- Interest received ---- Discount on purchases ---- Example of Trading and Profit $ Loss Account: Particulars Amount Particulars Amount Opening stock Purchases ---- Less: discount ---- Carriage inward Wages Gross profit (transferred to PL) ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- Total Sales ---- Less: discount ---- Closing Stock ---- ---- Total Carriage outward Salaries Trade expenses Advertisement Bad debts Insurance NP(transferred to balance sheet) ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- Total Interest received GP (transferred from Trading A/C) ---- ---- Total Balance Sheet Assets Amount Liabilities Amount Fixed Assets: Furniture ---- Plant and machinery ---- Building ---- Current Assets: Bank balance ---- Bills receivable ---- Sundry debtors ---- Closing stock ---- ---- ---- Total Long-term liabilities: Capital ---- Add: Net profit ---- Less: Drawings ---- Current Liabilities: Sundry creditors ---- Bank loan ---- ---- ---- Total Section 5: Potential Red Flags of AMP The red flags indicate the most crucial factors of the company which leads to fraud if not properly analysed. The management is responsible for everything that is happening in the company. Red flags are not the sign of happening of fraud. Red flag # 1 indicates inability to reconcile financial accounts on regular basis. If the company is unable to update the transactions done on regular basis then it leads to misrepresentation of transaction because of which the chances of fraud increases within the organization. Misrepresentation is a form of fraud which means intentional mistake in the recording of the actual transactions. Red flag # 2 is a sign of unexplained variances in the financial records. Negative variances occurs when the actual revenues are lower than the revenues planned while making the strategy and positive variances occurs when the actual expenses are lower than planned expenses. These variances are required to described carefully by the managers. If there remains any kind of unexplained variance then it leads to fraud within the organization. Red flag # 3 indicates the inquiry about large quantities adjustment or significant dollar amount adjustments. It means the company is required to analyse in detail the large quantity adjustments. While the procurement of raw material, the company is required to determine the difference between the pre-decided requirement of raw material and the actual quantity of raw material purchased. If there is a huge difference then this will indicate the chances of fraud. So, the company is required to focus on the quantity of material used to avoid the occurrence of fraud. Red flag # 4 indicates illogical discrepancies in the budgeted and actual results. Discrepancies are common in actual and budgeted results because the budgeted results are estimated as per the internal and external environmental conditions in that particular period of time. Future is uncertain so there are chances that the prices of raw material w ill increase or the preferences of customers will shift from one product to another or any political changes or changes in governmental regulations. But these all are logical discrepancies. So, the company should find out the logical reason behind the discrepancy in the actual and budgeted result and if the discrepancy is not due to these factors then in such case the company is required to evaluate the results because illogical discrepancies leads to fraud. Red flag # 5 indicates the chances of fraud related to unapproved employees and vendors. The company also includes certain policies and criteria for employees and vendors. Those vendors and employees who satisfy the criteria are approved by the company for further dealings and operations. This policy helps in avoiding fraud. If some unapproved vendors and employees are seen by the company then the company is required to enquire about them immediately. Red flag # 6 is related to the gaps in check numbers and receipts. The company is issuing the checks as per the serial numbers so if any check number is found missing then this needs to be carefully analysed. Red flag # 7 indicates the mismatch of receipts and deposits. The company is required to evaluate the deposits and receipts from time to time. The company is making the expenses from the receipts from customers or if any loan taken from the customers. If there is huge mismatch between the expenses and receipts then it needs to be analysed because receipts and deposits are the most crucial factors for every company. Red flag # 8 is a sign of behavioural changes in employees pattern. The employees are the people who are responsible for the success or failure of the strategy of the employee. If the company found any changes in the behaviour of the employees then in this case, the company is required to talk about it with the employees and try to find out the reason behind this change. Because if timely action is not taken in this concern then it increases t he negativity in the minds of employees and the chances of employees of doing fraud increases (Backof, et al., 2016). Conclusion After proper analysis of this report, it is concluded that AMP is required to be more flexible in the preparation of financial accounts. Some of its liabilities reduced in 2016 as compared to 2015. These liabilities include defined benefit plan liabilities, deferred tax liabilities, external unit holder liabilities, employee benefits, interest-bearing liabilities, payables and current tax liabilities. AMP is disclosing all the material information in its annual report. As per the analysis of the report, the most suitable theory for AMP is normative theory of accounting. Current tax assets, investments in financial assets, reinsurance asset ceded life insurance contracts and deferred tax assets increased in 2016 as compared to 2015.The cash and cash equivalents increased by 2209 in 2016. The cash flows from both financing and investing activities increased in the year 2016 as compared to 2015 but cash flows from operating activities decreased in the year 2016. Impact of Corporate Scandals on Individuals, Entities Society The Case of Adelphia

In recent years, numerous organizations have captured public attention for their involvement in spectacular cases of corporate fraud, leading to a multiplicity of negative consequences at every level of society (Mishina et al., 2010). The present paper aims to use the 2002 corporate scandal involving executives of Adelphia Communications Corporation to demonstrate the negative impacts of corporate fraud on individuals, corporations, businesses and the society at large.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Impact of Corporate Scandals on Individuals, Entities Society: The Case of Adelphia specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In 2002, family business owners John Rigas (co-founder and CEO), Michael Rigas (executive vice president for operations) and Timothy Rigas (chief financial officer) were accused of defrauding Adelphia in excess of $ 2.5 billion by engaging in a variety of conspiracies involving securities fra ud, wire fraud and bank fraud. In summary, the Rigas were accused of violating the RICO Act, breach of fiduciary duties, waste of corporate assets, abuse of financial control mechanisms, breach of contract, unjust self enrichment, and fraudulent conversion of corporate assets into private ownership (Diana, 2005). Researchers are in agreement that such illegal activities progressed by the very executives entrusted to safeguard the interests of the firm often result in adverse consequences for the individuals involved, the entity, as well as the society (Mishina et al., 2010). At the individual level, the culprits not only lose their jobs and earnings but also their professional reputation and social standing. In the case scenario, the Rigas were arrested and successfully prosecuted for defrauding the cable company, hence exposed to public shame and ridicule for their involvement. By extension, their ‘successful’ corporate careers were put to an abrupt end. Additionally, these individuals were exposed to immense physical and psychological anguish as they languish in prison. Corporate frauds are also known to negatively impact on the general population in various ways. For instance, there have been instances where taxpayers have been forced to bear the brunt of corporate scandals through taxation (Johnson et al., 2005), and also through increased costs of products and services (Pathak Wells, 2008). Although the U.S. federal government did not use taxpayers’ money to bail out the cable company as has happened with other companies involved in corporate frauds, it is highly possible that the general public suffered as they put up with inflated costs of services provided by Adelphi.Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More It is also important to note that the shareholders of the company must have been exposed to enormous physical, psycho logical, financial suffering and loss as they came to terms with the fall in share price and risk of losing their investments entirely due to the damaged firm reputation (Pathak Wells, 2008) The adverse impacts of corporate fraud are more severe at the entity level, particularly in terms of damaged firm performance, loss of image and reputation, loss of access to important resources, loss of net income leading to a reduction in shareholders’ equity, lowered credit rating, as well as eminent collapse and/or bankruptcy (Mishina et al., 2010). Although Adelphia did not collapse, the exists overbearing evidence to suggest that other big companies such as WorldCom and Enron were brought down to their knees and indeed collapsed under the heavy weight of corporate scandals (Johnson et al., 2005).  Lastly, the society at large is negatively affected by corporate scandals. For instance, while banks and other lending institutions are put in jeopardy as they are unlikely to retrieve the funds that were given to the firm in case it goes under, community members suffer the anguish of increased taxes to cover for fraudulent activities. Employees working for companies engaged in fraudulent activities are more likely to lose their employment and income, triggering a scenario whereby a sizeable number of community members have considerably reduced disposable income which bears a direct effect on the rest of the firms operating within the community as people will not be as inclined to eat out, purchase new vehicles or real estate, or spend money on anything else but the essentials (Pathak Wells, 2008). Unknown Chemical Lab

Unknown Chemical Lab Kenneth Porlaris Period 2 Ms. Buckly Finding the Unknown Chemical Purpose: The purpose of this lab on the third day was to find the uknown chemical by doing expriements to figure out what is the unknown chemical. Background: There are numerous organic chemical groups. The ones we are studying are, Nucleic Acids, Carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids. Beginning with carbohydrates, carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen are elements of molecules in this specific group. The molecules link together makes different types of carbohydrates. Some types are polysaccharide, monosaccharide, and disaccharide. The elements that are found in the molecules of Nucleic Acids are hydrogen, nitrogen, phosphorus, nitrogen, and oxygen. Nucleic acdis have two froms, RNA and DNA. RNA is a nucleic acid that froms a copy of DNA for use for making proteins. DNA is an organic genetic code that has instructions used to form all of an organism's enzymes and to structure the protein.Benedict CumberbatchElements that are found in Lipids are hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon. Lipids are very important for proper functioning of the organism insulation, also known as energy storage and protective skin. An example of this would be glycerol. Proteins contains carbons, nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen. The molecules provide tissues and organs to transport the metabolism through the cells. Its very important for transporting oxygen to the blood stream. It makes up practically all our body, such as finger nails, and hair. One of the tests was the Iodine test, which tests for polysaccharides. If the chemical were a polysaccharide it would then turn into a dark purpleor black color. Another test was the Benedict's test which tests formonosaccharide, which should turn the chemical into a tangerine, reddishcolor. The third test is the Biurette test, which tests for proteins whetherit's a positive protein or negative protein. The last test...

Can and should the marketplace be inclusive to all consumers Essay

Can and should the marketplace be inclusive to all consumers - Essay Example It will examine the problem that the aged face when companies decide to advertise and sell their commodity through the media and social networks. The paper will also try to explain how the aged can be integrated in the fashion industry. According to Macnicol (2005), age discrimination has a long history going back to 1930s, and even today it is a topic of debate in Britain. In the current world, many old people have a feeling that they are overlooked and ignored in the market. For example, in the designing of shopping complexes in the street. There are many old people who cannot obtain a service or the product that they want- whether from cinemas, restaurants or newspaper. This is because things have changed, so there is nothing that suits their taste. According to Mumel and Prodnik (2005), this discrimination has led the aged to stay away from this market. They consider themselves less fortunate and burden to society. According to Birtwistle and Tsim (2005), a fashion designer that can adopt and agree to cater for the individual needs of aging women will do quite well because it has a high potential, unsaturated market. Fashion designers have failed to provide old people with clothes that are psychologically, physically and socially comfortable. Psychological comfort gives the old person a well-being sense (Kunze, Boehm, & Bruch, 2011). Old people want clothes that will make the public have a positive mind and respect them. Physical comfort is achieved when the older people put on clothes that protect them from heat, humidity and cold. Their social comfort will be achieved by wearing clothes that will make them presentable and create a good impression to the public. The old also feel excluded in todays media. Images of the youth dominate the media today. Older peoples pictures are of two categories: one portrays old people as decrepit, aimed at generating sympathy and enable other people to contribute to them (

Minimalist visual artists and composers Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Minimalist visual artists and composers - Essay Example main characteristics of minimalist art that I really like include simplicity of the content, absence of anecdotal content and narration, monochromatic surfaces, and emphasis on shapes instead of backgrounds. However, I do not like the absence of aesthetic qualities in the minimalist artworks. In case of minimalist music, the things I like the most include use of single pulse and rhythm, use of same beats, simple and repetitive harmonies, and static instrumentation. What I do not like about minimalist music is lack of a real melody in the songs. In minimalist compositions, a single effect is maintained all through the song, which sometimes appears a little boring to me. An example of this form of music is that of ‘The Desert Music’ by Stephen Michael Reich. In this composition, Reich has used the repeated chords, same harmonic material, same harmonic progressions, and the same text that reflect the adherence of Reich to the basic characteristics of the minimalist

Reduction Of Global Warming And Maintaining Sustainability

Reduction Of Global Warming And Maintaining Sustainability Global warming is defined as an increase in the earths atmosphere. It is really harmful for environment. Pollution is also one of the big cause of global warming. Pollutions such as air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution and greenhouse gases contribute to the global warming. Greenhouse gases particularly human produced carbon dioxide are responsible in increase in global warming. Global warming could result various deadliest effects such as spread of diseases, warmer water and more occurrence of hurricanes, natural disasters, migrations, conflicts and wars and so on. In order to avoid such effects, global warming cannot be totally eradicated but it can be reduced drastically. Global warming needs serious attention about its effect and measures need to be taken to reduce global warming in order to maintain a proper sustainable environment. Global warming apparently is an increase in the global temperature but the change of temperature will not be uniform everywhere. The change in temperature is also called greenhouse effect. Troposphere which is known as the lowermost layer of the atmosphere traps heat by natural process due to the presence of greenhouse gases resulting into the change in temperature of the earth. The more the concentration of the greenhouse gases, the more is the amount of heat being trapped. The temperature of earth would be very low but in the presence of greenhouse gases the temperature of earth is comparatively very high which we called global warming. Researchers estimated that the earths mean temperature will rise between 1.5 to 5.5 degree Celsius by 2050, if the input of greenhouse gases continues to rise at the present rate (Indian Journal of Science Technology). Another effect of global warming is the rise in sea level. It also changes in pattern of rainfall which affects the distribution of vector borne diseases such as malaria, elephantiasis, and so on. Global warming has also big negative impact on agriculture. Soil moisture and vapor transition will increase which may drastically affect agricultural production. The increase in temperature and humidity will increase pest growth like the growth of vectors for various diseases. Several measures were taken in the past to control global warming. There are more measures constantly being taken every now and then. The main idea is to cut down the rate of use of Chlorofluorocarbon and fossil fuel. Agriculture also helps in reducing global warming. Now a days most of the farmers use chemicals in their crop to grow them faster and make them more attractive .This has bad effect on our environment which is also indirectly increasing global warming. This cause pollution as well as make most of the people sick. So, chemicals shouldnt be used in agriculture. Farmers should think about environment rather than money. Natural pesticides does not harm environment. So, natural pesticides should be used to make crops healthy. Small things which are unnoticeable also have big effect on environment. So, all of us should be more careful and think about its positive as well as negative aspects. Specially recycled, less using, and re using is a very important method to not only less using the waste products but also to help maintain the budget which keeps the economy flowing. Products such as papers, plastics, aluminum cans, and glasses can be recycled for re utilizes purposes. We should reduce using waste which cannot be recycled. Also we should not throw papers everywhere. Instead we can start from our home by collecting papers and later on give it to recycle. Reusing or recycling programs have to be maintained in every place from house to school as well as businesses and streets. In fact, by recycling half of the waste product 2400 pounds of carbon di oxide can be saved annually. For example: In my college we have two trash cans nearby in one its written waste only and in another its reuse. So, those students are throwing papers, plastics in reuse and other unnecessary trash on waste only. It will be easy for them to re-use the papers and save from pollution. Now technology is stepping forward day by day. They are making new ideas, new programs and new inventions. They are making different electrical production from which we can reduce using fuels and things which harm environments. For example: I am from Nepal and when I was small my mother used to cook food by burning woods but as I get older I saw many changes coming, then my mother started cooking food from fuel. Now we are here and my mother cooks food from microwave or oval which is electrical. Not only in the case of making food .Cars, computers and other many things has changed due to the progress on technology. Few years ago cars used to smoke emission which made air pollution and the sound from that made noise pollution but now here is car with no pollution. Slowly we are saving our environment. New techniques are making our environment as well as our life better. Also not only environment but its reducing global warming. On the other hand, usage of energy efficient products could help in reducing global warming. For example, if we buy a car that offers good mileage doesnt not only save fuel but also produce less carbon dioxide which helps to protect the environment. In fact, any vehicle that runs by battery would be better than any other vehicle that runs by fuel. Also drive less and drive smart is another technique that can be used practically in our daily life. Less driving means fewer emissions and fewer emissions means less chances of global warming. I have hybrid car and I am saving lots of fuel. I think cars like hybrid should be made more which will help in reducing global warming. Apart from that, we could also plant a tree which is another method to reduce greenhouse gases. Plants and its photosynthesis process are really very important for environment. Photosynthesis is a Natural process in which plants absorbs carbon dioxide and gives out oxygen which indicate safe environment. According to a report by environmentalists, a single tree absorbs one ton of carbon dioxide during its life time. Cutting tree will affect everyone. When plants are removed, the soils they observe also come out which cause heavy rainfall and destroy everything. With that removal of forest or tree there will be more carbon dioxide and less oxygen which totally harm environment. Deforestation is very dangerous for our environment which causes global warming. We should reduce cutting tree but if we really need to cut tree then we should plant another tree which will help in reducing global warming as well as balance the environment. Everyone is thinking about reducing global warming. Besides following all the possible methods and techniques to reduce the production of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases, it is very important to be aware from personal level to help reduce the global warming. Population is increasing day by day. And growing population has biggest effect on global warming. The way they live, the food they eat and everything affect environment. So, less population will surely help to reduce global warming. Education also plays one of the biggest roles in reducing global warming. Many people dont even know what is mean by global warming. So, every individual should be made aware of the effects of the global warming which would help reduce the increasing temperature of the earth due to global warming. Its a tough task to reduce global warming and every individual should contribute as much as possible in order to reduce the global warming and maintain the sustainability. Since there is little doubt that global warming is influence by human actions, it can also be stopped by our own actions. Something should be done to stop it before it turned out to be very bad. We can act towards things that produce little greenhouse gases as much as possible. Our own approach can makes a difference in protecting our environment and making it sustainable as much as possible for the generations to come. Work Cited Walker, Mary L. Review of Brazil the Movie Essays -- essays research papers

Upon watching the movie Brazil for the first time, the first thought which comes to mind is ‘WHAT’. However, once past the exterior of the movie, one is able to divine its true meanings. Written by Terry Gilliam, Charlie McKeown and Tom Stoppard, Brazil was a groundbreaking movie which brought to light many issues within society which were valid in 1985 and remain so today. This text is valued because of the issues it raises, such as technology, an unwieldy government and consumerism, which are timeless issues. Brazil is based around a futuristic bureaucracy, where everything and everyone is property, there is little or no communication, and with the right forms, you can legally do whatever you want. This movie shows the flaws of such a system, that whilst aiming for perfection, is merely digging itself deeper into confusion and destroying the very society it seeks to control. Brazil is a dark comedy which shows us the consequences of handing over our lives to a faceless bureaucracy. Sam Lowry’s world is made up of millions upon millions of machines, upon which everyone relies to survive. Machines perform basically every task that there is, from the most mundane task such as creating food, to the most complex and important tasks such as deciding the fate of every living person within the system. When we first meet Sam his alarm clock is not working, the phone is large and hard to work, and the food that his machines make is completely inedible. This does not bode well for the people, for if the machines cannot even handle the most basic of tasks, how could they possibly handle the complex ones? We are taken further into the world of faults and failings within the system later on, when Sam has major problems with his heating ... ...reedom, and that the mind is the only truly safe place. Brazil is a film which rolls up all of the problems which society was experiencing at the time that it was made into one darkly humorous movie. Commercialism, terrorism, technology, bureaucracy and government control, cosmetic surgery and the lack of freedom and individual expression. This movie was not mainstream because of the way that it delivered its message, and also perhaps simply because the government suppressed it somewhat. However, this film provided great insight into these problems, and continues to do so today, as many of these problems continue to exist. Brazil aims to highlight these problems and make the viewer think about what they have seen. This movie was not intended to change the world, but simply to try to prevent it from spiralling down into a dystopian Brazil-like chaos.

American Music of the New Millennium

Music creates invigorating environments and atmospheres in nightclubs, homes, churches, picnics, cars and everywhere else on this planet. Music industry attracts creative, imaginative minds who has the capability of developing ideas that fascinates everyone. Many years ago, music consisted of one category, classical. From classical, Jazz, Blues, Ragtime, Rock and Roll, Pop, Hip-Hop were invented. The music bringing in the most money are the music that stays up with the current trends. This type of music has a bigger audience. Today, we have several music types that can be divided into popular classifications.Updated audio technology enhances sounds of notes played, chord progressions and vocal techniques more distinctively. Music appealing to popular cultures consistently changes with current trends. Today’s popular music categories appealing to young generations, staying with current trends can be classified as Hip-Hop or Rap, Pop, or progressive Rhythm and Blues. Popular art ists such as Kayne West, Hurricane Chris and 50 cent play music classified as Hip-Hop or Rap. Jazz, Rock and Roll, mixed with international African Drumming and Latino cultures shaped the personality of Hip-Hop.Hip-Hops tonality is formed by constant heavily accented beats and strong notes. The constant backbeat defining Rock and Roll carried over to Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop arranges the instruments to put stronger emphases on the backbeat, creating an atmosphere of invigoration and energy. Teen music audiences are vibrant and energetic. â€Å"We could say that music perception is measured and studied as though it is the ability to perceive features of music† (Dorrel, 2006). Heavy accents on instrumentation intrigue young music audiences. Energetic rhythms, provided by percussion are youth oriented, and are easily perceived by young people.Hip-Hop in the future may become faster, have many more rhythms playing simultaneously, and become more integrated with other nations. The number of notes written into Hip-Hop’s musical scores will increase. There is a new dance trend popularized by Hip-Hop (and Madonna) called Krumping. Hip-Hop music steadily influences development of new dance styles, both in the studios and in the nightclubs. Other artists of another division of the pop music classification are Fergie, Rihanna and Gwen Stefani. Pop music sometimes follows the same time signatures as Hip-Hop.The duration of the accents, frequency’s and pitches are comparable to Hip-Hops style. Identical Hip-Hop sheet music may be used for pop. The emphases on the instruments defines the difference. Pop artists singing voices are more accented, above the percussion. The audible focus emphasize different instruments. Electronic instruments (Keyboard, Organ) are emphasized while percussions provide the steady ongoing pulse. As time progresses, all popular music note’s and rhythms speed and frequency increase. For current music trends to stay on top of the music field, they must constantly create new themes, new overall tonality’s.One of the changes inevitably coming along is the ways music is brought to us. Music will be available through radios, devices requiring service contracts without downloadable device and concert shows. Artists will start touring more or only agreeing to make albums requiring a service contract. There will be more competition to create stunning shows. The artists will have to â€Å"make it (concert) memorable. Give them ups and downs, highs and lows, mix the comfortable with the unexpected† (Elmy, 2003). In the new millennium, pop bands may be putting shows together with rap bands. The final classification of music is Rhythm and Blues. Some Rhythm and Blues singers are Beyonce, Janet Jackson and Ciara. The melody and electronic instruments are emphasized in R&B. Musical theatre, Jazz and Big Band influenced R&B. Dancing, and types of dancing defined and characterized Musical Theatre, Jazz, Big Ba nd. In today’s R&B videos, artists uses distinctive dance styles. In Rihanna’s video, Umbrella (also R&B), you can see the Fosse technique in her solo dancing, specifically from All That Jazz. Future Rhythm and Blues will continue return to its roots from Big Band and Jazz, which was played in musical theatres.Popular music, is music appealing to the average ages from children to late twenties. Children are never to young to become a fan of popular music produced by the music industry. Some two year olds love Hurricane Chris and KISS. The artists appealing to younger generations may be any age. Record label’s executives are conducting professional music business to appeal to younger people. The music trends constantly change, continuously inventing ways to hold audiences with short attention spans. If music shows are designed to hold the attention of ADD five years old, it will certainly hold adult audiences. When applying for an executive position, the straightl aced interview rules no longer apply. â€Å"It’s no accident labels are hiring producers. These guys have the sense to stay on top of market changes and deliver sales. You’ve definitely gotta hire someone who’s going to bring a little more content to what people are doing nowadays, because if you don’t, you’re going to get pushed out of the race† (Marshall, 2007). Future of music will bring more breakthrough techniques including improvement of vocal quality, musical arrangements of songs, and recording technology. Artists are now refusing to make albums.Madonna recently left her lifetime record label, Warner Brothers because Live Nation promotes concert tours. These live performances will likely eliminate any music sales to individuals. Legitimate businesses are going to be the primary purchasers of hard copies of music. Today, only dance studios with 2000 students purchase the required licenses to play and use copyrighted music. The smaller dance studios do not abide with these laws. Artists advantage to producing music is currently getting eliminated. The reality shows, American Idol, Dancing With the Stars can be very misleading. Why is Paula Abdul no longer singing and making albums, since she is a bridge to music contracts? Younger people may lack money to purchase all favorite tunes. However, the cost of getting music to them costs a small fortune. The popular music can currently be divided into three classifications. The most creative people combined Rhythm and Blues coming from classic musical theatre, jazz and blues originating in 1920’s and marketed current popular cultures. Notes; Elmy, T. (2003, May). can be found offensive to the point where they are censored or taken out of certain things such as TV shows, books and things of that nature. But why? Censorship is wrong and unconstitutional and should be discontinued as soon as possible. Many people say that things such as curses or obscene language need to be stopped. Censors, people who deem things â€Å"appropriate†, edit the content of music, TV, published writing and more to make sure that it is suitable to be viewed by people. What gives them the right to do so? In fact, by doing so, they are violating the constitution of The United States of America. The 1st amendment of the constitution clearly states, â€Å"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.† The founding principles of America says that no law shall be made prohibiting the freedom of speech. This is clearly being done all of the time and needs to come to an immediate stop. The people of America should not have their constitutional rights taken away. Censorship is unnecessary for many reasons. One of those is that, cursing and obscene language are only offensive when they are made offensive by the people themselves. If cursing was never said to be a bad thing, people would not look at the same way. If the word â€Å"shit† was not deemed a bad word, it could be used with its real meaning and would not be offensive. Saying the word â€Å"shit† is the same as saying poop or feces but because Americans have made it seem so bad, it is deemed offensive, but why aren’t the other two treated the same way. Free Essays on Censorship Free Essays on Censorship To some people actually sitting down and writing a letter with pen and paper seems prehistoric. Email seems to be the only way to communicate in today’s world. It is so common and easy even children are using computers to talk to friends as well as pen pals from across the globe. With so easy access and so many people using the Internet there are bound to be all types of information. As a result, there is a great deal of information that has been deemed â€Å"indecent†. Congress has attempted to censor this information with the federal â€Å"Communications Decency Act of 1996 a controversial piece of legislation signed into law by President Clinton on February 8, 1996 (www.fmew.com/archive/censor). There are many advocates to pass this law censoring the internet, claiming that there is much information that is immoral and indecent for children as well as adults to view. As with the saying that there are â€Å"two sides to every story†, and with this story there is also an opinion that the Internet should not be censored. The reasoning behind the opinion that the Internet should not be censored is because it is not Congress’s job to evaluate what is decent or immoral for what people; this is a personal individual decision. Also, censoring information on the Internet defeats the purpose for which it was created. To top it all off censoring the Internet is a violation of the First Amendment, which grants Freedom of Speech. First of all, Congress is the legislative body of the United States, which prepares and enacts our laws. No where in the job description of a congressman (congresswoman) does it say to decide what is indecent and/or immoral from one person to the next. This is a personal choice, one person may think that talking about sex on the Internet is immoral while another may consider it necessary to teach their children about sex and the precautions they may need to take in the future. What is the difference between saying â€Å"ass† and â€Å"butt†?... Free Essays on Censorship Censorship The main reason that censorship is bad because it’s hiding the truth from us. We are not eligible to know what’s really happening and we’re losing our right to know what is happening behind the little black dots that appear on posters and our television screens. The government is banning us from the real world and expect us to believe all they say is true. The further they go with censorship, the more we are losing our right to know, to express ourselves and we will all end up being controlled by whatever they say that presumes to be the TRUTH. They think that we don’t know what’s happening but the word of mouth will spread and will notify us. The more they censor stuff, the more we will wan to investigate what they have censored. It is in our human nature to discover what has been hidden. I think we should only censor materials that are bad for children’s education. We are all mature enough to read or to know what’s really going in the world and I’m sure it will help us acknowledge more things. We never know what might happen if censorship goes beyond belief and it might even cause more wars and we’ll be destroying ourselves. It is important to not to expose children to these inappropriate movies, but trying to do it by censoring them is ridiculous. It really is so that it is up to parents to do the censoring. But it is so stupid, that because movies are being censored, not even us mature audiences are allowed to see them. Censorship as an idea is an idea for a perfect world. The only problem is that we do not live in a so-called perfect world and by shutting our eyes does not make all bad things disappear. In conclusion, I think that some people had enough of censorship, it’s becoming like a law that not much people believe or obey to it. I think they should think about a better way of censorship, like the pg-listings that list what kind of audiences should watch the program being... Free Essays on Censorship Within hours of the September 11 tragedies, the music industry realized it needed to display some newfound sensitivity: Dave Matthews nixed plans to release "When the World Ends" as his next single, the Strokes removed "New York City Cops" from their recently released album, and Bush changed the title of their new single from "Speed Kills" to "The People That We Love." But the gesture that received the most attention was a rumored list of songs banned from radio, each containing literal or metaphorical references a bit too close to recent events. The list, containing more than 150 "lyrically questionable" songs, started as a grass-roots effort by local programmers, then was redistributed by a senior executive at ClearChannel, the largest owner of radio stations in the United States and owner of many Cleveland stations (including WTAM, WMMS, WMVX, WMJI and several others). Among the listed songs were "Fly," "Jet Airliner," "Head Like a Hole," "Only the Good Die Young," "Great Balls of Fire," "Crash Into Me," "It’s the End of the World as We Know It," and dozens more. When the story hit the mainstream press, most journalists got the story wrong. It was widely reported that ClearChannel overtly banned the songs to avoid consternation and controversy, which wasn’t true. ClearChannel correctly pointed out that the original e-mail didn’t order anyone to ban any songs, but was merely a call for programmers to exercise restraint. Despite ClearChannel’s intentions, many radio programmers did censor songs as a result of receiving that list, but that still isn’t the point. The real question is: what were they trying to restrain? While the list was mainly comprised of songs bearing lyrical references to burning, death and airplanes, it also advocated censure for "Peace Train" by Cat Stevens, John Lennon’s "Imagine," and all songs by Rage Against the Machine. What do these songs have to do with flying airplanes into buildings? A... Free Essays on Censorship Censorship Censorship in Music is not called for in most cases. The idea of censorship in music started in the early part of the twentieth century. Gregory Black said â€Å"When Fats Dominoes’ rendition of ‘60 minute man’ came out†¦ it left little to the imagination†¦ Later this type of music then became known as ‘race’ or ‘jungle’ music which was about racism, social injustice, hypocrisy, and other social issues that made older Americans extremely uncomfortable.† Soon after this happened the FBI spent millions of dollars investigating rock stars. They followed stars like John Lennon, Jim Morrison, and Elvis Presley then took more than two years to figure out if the Kingsman used the â€Å"F† word in â€Å"Louie, Louie.† Later a judge in Florida ruled that 2-Live Crew’s album â€Å"Nasty as they Wanna Be† was obscene and was banned for sale because they used the â€Å"F† word 226 times in the album. It was later overturned. I believe that the government goes to far sometimes in trying to censor the music of artists. The government has also made record companies start putting labels on the CD’s because there lyrics are to â€Å"obscene†. What gives someone the right to determine what words are too obscene for other people except for parents of young children. The ways the government censors artist is against the 1st amendment of the constitution which states â€Å"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.†, However they have told the record companies to put a label on the cover of the records. In many more cases the government has censored musicians not just on their records but through the air waves, preventing them from being played to help sell records, due to what is known as â€Å"... Free Essays on Censorship Censorship S*@#s Censorship, so far as I see it, is like a law which prohibits swimming altogether because such a law will prevent someone from swimming in a sewer† (Brower 1). Here, in the twenty-first century, the banning of thoughts and ideas in humanities and media has become one of the most widely disputed issues facing this country. Though it is highly controversial, hazardous to literature, and unconstitutional, censorship is rampant in America. Censorship is defined as â€Å"Policy of restricting the public expression of ideas, opinions, conceptions, and impulses, which have or are believed to have the capacity to undermine the governing authority or the social and moral order which that authority considers itself bound to protect† (Abraham 357). There is said to be four different categories, which are referred to as political, religious, against obscenity, and censorship affecting academic freedom. All of these categories are equal in their destructiveness towards free speech. There are two different forms that censorship takes; prior, which refers to advance suppression and â€Å"post facto† which is suppression after it has Prasad 2 been published (Brower 5). Authorities since the beginning of the written word have used both of these forms of censorship. Throughout history, figures that don’t have the real power to censor resort to personal pressure tactics to intimidate those who have influence over, or in command of, channels of communication. The McCarthy era during the 1940’s and 1950’s is a compelling example of this. During this time there was blacklisting of controversial literary figures as well as performing artists, thus blocking their employment in certain media such as movies, radio, and television. By doing this they accomplished the task of preventing the public from seeing what they considered to be objectionable material (Dubin 27). There are many rationalizations that are used by people that ... Free Essays on Censorship No other democratic society in the world permits personal freedoms to the degree of the United States of America. The First Amendment clearly voices a great American respect toward the freedom of religion. It also prevents the government from "abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Since the early history of our country, the protection of basic freedoms has been the highest priority to Americans. Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 is a fictitious example of the evils of censorship in a world that is becoming illiterate. In this book, the government convinces the public that book reading is evil because it spreads harmful opinions and agitates people against the government. The vast majority of people accept this censorship of expression without question and are content to see and hear only the government's propaganda. Bradbury's hidden opposition to this form of censorship was apparent throughout the book and finally prevailed in the end when his main character rebelled against the practice of burning books. Freedom of speech is constantly being challenged as is evidenced in a recent court case where a Gloucester County school district censored reviews of two R-rated movies from a school newspaper. Superior Court Judge, Robert E. Francis ruled that the student's rights were violated under the state Constitution. I feel this is a major break through for students' rights because it limits editorial control of school newspapers by educators and allows students to print what they feel is important. A newly proposed bill (A-557) would prevent school officials from controlling the content of student publications. Critics of the bill feel that "student journalists may be too young to understand the responsibilities that come with free speech." This is a val...

Global Warming Threats and Solutions

Global Warming Threats and Solutions Introduction There is little doubt that our earth is undergoing a gradual increase in temperature: global warming is real. Baffling statistics by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC) indicate that the earth’s temperature has risen by roughly 0.6 degrees Celsius, the highest since the mid 1800s, further reports indicate that the duration from 1997-2003 were the hottest years ever recorded.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Global Warming Threats and Solutions specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Worst is yet to come as the United Nations committee on climate has predicted a temperature rise of between 1.8 to 6 Degrees Celsius by the end of the century which enough to melt all ice and polar caps (IPPC, pg. 2). This would spell disaster as many countries, cities and towns will be submerged, including the Netherlands and New York City. The threat is real and unless we act appropriately, almost half of a ll earth will be under the sea at the turn of the century. Natural or man-made? In the past few years, the threat of global warming has appeared real and this has led to debates over who or what was responsible for the condition. The media, politicians and the general population have been divided on this topic. Skeptics argue that human activities man is not the leading cause of global warming, they assert that climate will change continuously, as it has in the past, human activities not withstanding (Singer, pp. 1). However, to understand the actual cause(s) of global warming, we need to understand how the process occurs. Global warming is mainly contributed by Greenhouse gases, this consists of water vapor, carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and Ozone. The highest contributor of these gases to the atmosphere is man. The Industrial Revolution had greatly increased the amounts of CO2, CH4, chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) and nitrous oxide in the atmosphere with levels of CO2 and CH4 inc reasing by 40% and 150% respectively since the mid 18th century. These values are the highest during the last 650,000 years, the last time CO2 levels were higher than this was roughly 20 million years ago (IPPC, pg. 1). The high levels of CO2 have been caused by burning fossil fuels and de-forestation, man is the cause of both (Simon et al, pp. 79). A recent study examined more than seven million studies of temperature, salinity, and other factors that affect the world’s water systems collected by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and compared them with predictions from computer simulations.Advertising Looking for report on environmental studies? Simulations based on human activities, h owever, exactly corresponded to the observations (Henderson, para. 6). The study eliminated all possible causes of global warming and was left with one culprit: man. The study also simulated past and future consequences of global warming and the findings were nothing to be admired and cannot be merely dismissed. Global warming could cause disastrous effects in the future, for example, a study undertaken by a team of scientists led by Ruth Curry of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution found out that 20,000 square kilometers of ice in the Arctic melted between 1965 and 1995 (Henderson, para. 10). Continued melting at this rate could destabilize the ocean currents that keep Britain warmer than other European countries. Solution The evidence that man is responsible for global warming is admissible, therefore, solutions to global warming lies with us. The solution to global warming is quite simple, one does not have to make long journeys or spend large amounts of money, rather, implement ation of the strategies that are outlined below will assist in averting this menace (Pearson, para.4). The first step is energy efficiency. This is a very large topic and covers almost all facets of energy use contributing to global warming. Energy efficiency involves adoption of energy forms that limit global warming, also referred to as alternative or renewable energy. The three main sources of these energy forms are the sun, tidal and wind energy. Other forms include hydroelectric, geothermal, diesel and biodiesel energy forms. Solar and wind energy present us with a greener and more environmentally friendly energy options, besides being renewable, they can be harnessed from almost anywhere on earth. Another simple process of keeping global warming in check is to plant trees around the house, school or in any open field. As simple as it may sound, this goes a long way to eliminating the Greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, making the earth cooler. Other outdoor activities such a s using bicycles or walking over short distances instead of using a car are very pivotal in reducing the levels of Greenhouse gases. We should strive to recycle materials around the house, especially non-biodegradable types such as packaging material. Plastic packaging bags can be re-used to reduce the environmental damage related to these materials. The manufacturing process of plastic bags also leads to an increase in CO2 in the atmosphere.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Global Warming Threats and Solutions specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Conclusion If everybody follows these rules, we would be helping ourselves and even the future generations by preserving the earth. If all of us take a role in preserving the earth, the cumulative effect would be significant to cause a drop in the level of Greenhouse gases, hence the earth’s temperature. Henderson, Mark. Project management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Project management - Essay Example External groups, Individuals, Clients, Contractors, Funding Partners, Consultants, Employees and Work Force, and other government / regulatory organizations can be identified as stakeholders in a project, (Bourne, 2010). Further, categorizing the stakeholders according to the degree or level of impact they can put on a project activity or can get impacted by it. This knowledge of stakeholders assists in evaluating how the various interests of stakeholders should be addressed and managed in an efficient manner. 1.1. Role of Stakeholder Management The role of stakeholder management is to create utility for the project manager in order to get acquainted with all the participants / stakeholders of the project and their respective interests, create an equilibrium between the inputs / contribution and the incentive given by and to the stakeholder, set up an unbiased basis for effectively managing individual stakeholder requirements, decide the participation level of each stakeholder during the planning and execution part of the project, promoting stakeholder interests in the project through effective communication strategy and offering rewards to shareholders. Stakeholder analysis can be carried out at the commencement of the project or at regular intervals during the execution to track the changes in the attitudes of project stakeholders as the project advances, (Patrick, 2008). 1.2 Significance The significance of Stakeholder management lies in the need to make clear the consequences of predicted modifications, potential risks, and opportunities that face the project. Stakeholder management is also vital since it helps to identify the risks and planning for strategies to reduce the effects of risks on the project, (Deming, 1982). 1.3 Stakeholder Categories Stakeholders can be easily classified into four different categories depending upon their potential to collaborate or threaten the project execution or results. 1. Supportive stakeholders are those who do not wis h to threaten the project proceedings and desire to support the project goals and objectives. These types of supportive stakeholders may include the suppliers, funding organizations, company management and consultants. 2. Marginal Stakeholders are those who are neither extremely menacing nor helpful, even though they possess a large stake in the project and can affect the decisions, but are not in general concerned. These may consist of environmentalist groups, and media. 3. Non Supportive Stakeholders are those that have an elevated potential to influence the project in a threatening manner but are short on the potential for cooperation and are the most worrying source of concern for the project manager. These may include the labor unions, governmental organizations, and at times the media. 4. The  mixed stakeholders possess an equal potential to assist or threaten the project and usually consist of clients, end users of the project, (Rowley, 1997). 1.4 Efficient management of St akeholder management Lastly, in order to effectively manage stakeholders within a project environment, it is
